Adventure Fishing In Jamaica

Fishing in Jamaica offers true adventure. It is an experience for the entire family to enjoy regardless of the skill level. Fishing is such a global pastime and sport. In Jamaica, fishing is great fun and thrilling sport. I find Jamaican fishing relaxing. There are many places in Jamaica which are fantastic locations for fishing. Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Port Antonio are notable fishing destinations on the island of Jamaica.

Deep sea fishing is a popular past time and activity for locals and tourists alike. Though for different reasons. Tourist fish for fun and game while locals fish predominantly for food and also to stimulate the economy by providing food and income for locals.

Those who fish for the sheer adventure of fishing in Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, or Port Antonio usually go after wahoo, mahi-mahi, yellow fin tuna, black fin tuna, marlin, bonito, barracuda, blue marlin, king fish, and/or Spanish mackerel. Some can be found deep see while others are found in more shallow waters.

Charters

There are many charters available for fishing trips. in Jamaica, fishing does not require a license. You can charter a boat with a captain and crew for about $400 to $900 for a half a day and up to about $1500 for a full day.

Some notable charters are Seaworld Resorts in Montego Bay, Stanley's in Negril, and Glistening Waters Marina in Falmouth.

Jamaican Fishing Tip:

  • Bring suntan lotion on the boat if you are not accustomed to the Caribbean sun.

  • Bring Dramamine if you are not accustomed to choppy waters.
